Scott Steven Singles Tournament
Hi Everyone who played, sponsored and supported the first Scott Steven Singles Tournament this last Sunday the 13th December 2020. I'm overwhelmed with all your support to make this event happen and keep Scott's memory alive on the tennis court that he loved so much. Many thanks to the Mount Maunganui Tennis Club, the committee and the members. Thank you Kevin and Janis for sponsoring the BBQ all day and Judy and Nikki for creating the best noodle salad and the dinner in the kitchen all day and playing as well! Marly you were great helping with everything and Lynne and Sylvia thank you for keeping the bar going and supporting me with this event. Deanna, your a great prize giving host and thank you for sponsoring those extra special prizes and Alby well done with the blessing and your speech! My lovely sister in law Suzanne and her brothers family sponsored the balls from Australia and Bridgette and Jason, thank you for our brainstorming on it all and also a big thank you for your string sponsoring prizes. My feeling was that the players really enjoyed playing two real standard single matches and it was great to see Tup Cox as a legend playing two matches in a row in this heat and training for the nationals in January. The youngest and also a Trophy Winner was Nikau Going and it was great to see the strongest match with Richard Samuel (Otumoetai) vs Kalais Going (Mount Maunganui) and Kalais winning 6:4 6:4. More photos, and the results of all players will be on the website. I am certainly looking forward to next years event and I hope you will all come again. If you enjoy tennis like most of us, here is another tournament coming up that you might want to enter. Mount Maunganui Beach Open Tennis Tournament Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 27th,28th,29th December. And last but not least thank you Zizi for publishing an article in the Bay of Plenty TIMES.
